We went to a delicious Turkish breakfast with our friends. It included cheeses, jams (rose, for one), nut butters (sesame seed-hazelnut), eggs, olives, sausages, and flatbreads, among other things. Notice the large tea pot at the front of the table. Daily tea is an integral part of Turkish culture. Read below for more about how the above tea pot works.
Very strong black tea is brewed in the teapot with the red handle. Hot coals burn in the very bottom section of the vessel, keeping the water in the large section very hot. You can see the ashes in the small open window at the bottom. To use, you take the small upper tea pot and pour some in your cup, then turn on the spout below to add hot water to your cup and make it just as strong as you like it. So clever, isn’t it?
