“Nasilsiniz” from Turkey!

After 20 hours of travel time from Phoenix to Antalya, Turkey (16 hours of air time), we arrived longing for a good night’s sleep, and missing Jessica’s luggage. It seems to have wanted its vacation in Zurich!

Our friends met us at the airport and we took a taxi together. The taxi driver loved that our friend was speaking his language, and in response also tried to speak a few words of English. He was a retired police officer. He said a million Ukrainians and Russians have come to his city in the past year and the traffic is now very bad. But he loves this city. Beautiful weather, beautiful place.

Our first expedition was to the nearby beach, hoping the walk and fresh air would keep us awake so we could more quickly adjust to the local bedtime (10 hours later here).

Antalya is a long city set against huge, looming, rugged, mountains on one end, and miles and miles of coastline all along the southern side. The rocky Mediterranean beach, with clear, aqua colored, gentle waves, goes for miles until it reaches tall rocky cliffs, which continue for many more miles.

We took a boat ride, sailing along the coast next to the rocky cliffs, until we reached a powerfully rushing waterfall. We returned to the beautiful yacht harbor, which dates back to the Roman era, and visited the old city of Kaleici. It’s the historic city center, with ancient ruins dispersed among the shops.
